Just Stop Oil warns Britons to brace for ‘Christmas disruption’

Just Stop Oil has warned it could cause huge disruption for millions of Britons around Christmas in a move that could trigger furious reactions from festive shoppers. The campaign group have staged disruptive protests for more than a month throughout London, blocking roads and often gluing themselves to the tarmac, while buildings and famous paintings have also been targeted. Earlier this week, Just Stop Oil said it was pausing disruption after 32 days of protests to give the Government time to “consider their responsibilities to this country”.Activists have given ministers until the end of tomorrow to respond to their calls for new oil and gas licences to be halted, warning if does not get a response by then, its activities will be “escalated”.But now Just Stop Oil has warned of more disruption around Christmas and will “continue in Civil Resistance until the government stops harming us, the ordinary everyday people of this country”.The campaign group said that although they are “worried”, protesters will continue to put themselves in harm’s way as “nothing has worked so far” to meet their objectives.A Just Stop Oil spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “There is no longer any ceiling on our weather, on what the next storm will bring, the next rainfall. I think people should plan for disruption, and not just at Christmas. We are giving time to those in the Government who are in touch with reality to consider their responsibilities to this country at this time.”If, as we sadly expect, we receive no response from ministers to our demand by the end of Friday November 4, we will escalate our legal disruption against this treasonous Government. Our action will be proportionate to the task of stopping the crime against humanity which is new oil and gas.”On Tuesday, Just Stop Oil protesters blocked the busy central London route of Whitehall by sitting in the road, with some gluing themselves to the tarmac, while others tried to climb the Downing Street gates.Police shouted “make way” and “come back please” as armed officers stopped some protesters from jumping over the smaller gate and removed a woman who was climbing up the main gate to where Prime Minister Rishi Sunak lives and works.DON’T MISSGas prices see Putin’s plan in tatters as UK receives £5bn boost [LATEST]Chris Bryant erupts at ‘bully’ Tories as they heckle him in Commons [COMMENTS]Albania PM tells UK to provide visas to his young people [REPORT] Just Stop Oil protesters have sprayed bright orange paint over the front of buildings (Image: GETTY) Just Stop Oil activists protested around Downing Street on Tuesday (Image: GETTY)In familiar scenes from the last four weeks, activists were dragged away by officers towards police vans as members of the public looked on.A Just Stop Oil spokesman said: “Rishi Sunak is about to U-turn on attending COP27.
