Across the series, 32 hopeful chefs will be tested to see if they have what it takes to be crowned the MasterChef. In the episode, the first four hopefuls were split into two where they were set tasks by Anna and Marcus to test out their skills. Anna had Anastasia and Parminder attempt to open oysters, poach them and then have them smoked in a beurre blanc sauce. On the other hand, Marcus was testing their pastry skills by having the prospective cooks create a summer fruit tart with jam, crème pâtissière and piped Italian meringue. Although, the chefs were able to create some real delights, it was not the food that had viewers at home all saying the same thing. Many people were quick to criticise show original Gregg over his critiques to the contestants. Many felt it was in fact hypocritical for Gregg to be calling out the mistakes of the professional chefs when he is in fact not a chef himself. Gregg built his culinary career off the back of being a greengrocer so he known a thing or two about the ingrediants but many fans feltas though he should have refrained from commenting on the cooking. One disgruntled fan fumed: "#MasterChefTheProfessionals Good old sexist Gregg finding fault with the young woman chef, when the real chefs were heaping praise on her.
