Mum’s two-minute tip to clean stained coffee cups

‘Who else’s husband brings in all his coffee mugs for the week all at once?’ the mum-of-three behind TikTok account @momlikeaboss_ asked viewers. In a viral video posted for her 1.1M followers, the mum showed a coffee mug stained with residual coffee and how she restores the cup to look ‘brand new’ once more.According to the video, the cleaning method takes just minutes and doesn’t use any strong cleaning chemicals.How to clean a stained mug using baking sodaThe mum said: “If you have a coffee-stained mug like this it’s easier to clean than you might think.”All you need is some baking soda and hot water. White vinegar is great for cleaning due to its acidic nature.To clean your mug, fill it half full with boiling or very hot water from the kettle. Then, top off the mug with white vinegar.Allow the mixture to soak for a while, this may take longer for heavily stained mugs.Next, pour the vinegar water down the sink and scrub the freshly emptied mug with an abrasive sponge. Finally, rinse your mug with fresh, clean water for sparkling results. Ways you can use baking soda to clean around your home (Image: DX)If you don’t happen to have baking soda or white vinegar to hand, Molly Maid’s cleaning team say salt and ice could also do the trick.To begin, pour some salt into the bottom of the mug and dump a few pieces of crushed ice on top.Cover the mug with a few layers of plastic wrap and shake vigorously. The coarse salt removes the coffee stains without any chemicals.Rinse with clean water, and your mug is restored to its former glory.
