The Committee found Mr Bridgen had an inaccurate entry relating to his advisory role with forestry firm Mere Plantations, which donated £5,000 to the North West Leicestershire Conservative Association in 2019, for almost two years. He then breached rules on "paid advocacy" by initiating five, and participating in three, approaches to ministers or officials which "sought to confer a benefit on" the firm, the committee found. He also breached the Code by failing to declare his interest in eight emails to Ministers and five meetings with ministers or public officials. The Committee recommended he is suspended from the Commons for five sitting days. But this is less than the 10 days that would be needed to trigger a recall petition and a by-election. Tory MP Andrew Bridgen is set to be suspended from Parliament for breaching lobbying rules in a “significant litany of errors”.
