Sirens sound in Japan after North Korea fires yet another ballistic missile

North Korea is believed to have a fired an intercontinental ballistic missile in a failed launch towards Japan this morning.

Sirens sounded in the northern regions of Miyagi, Yamagata and Niigata with residents told to stay indoors, and trains halted due to fears the missile could pass overhead.

Yonhap news agency quoted a South Korean military source saying: ‘North Korea’s ICBM launch is presumed to have ended in failure.’

Japan’s defence minister Yasukazu Hamada said it ‘disappeared’ from radar above the Sea of Japan, about 683 miles off the coast of Japan, after reaching an altitude of 1,200 miles and flying 460 miles.
