Nearly nine in ten cameras set to enforce the expanded ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) have been stolen or damaged in southeast London as “white van man” makes it the epicentre of resistance to Sadiq Khan’s plans.
Analysis of crowd-sourced data on the location and status of the new camera network suggests that Transport for London (TfL) is struggling to contain anti-Ulez activity in some areas. The scale of vandalism has been so great that armour plating is now being used to protect the devices.
The Ulez will expand to the M25 from central London next week. Vehicles that do not meet the emissions standards will be charged £12.50 a day.
Campaigners say that the cameras are being targeted by sole traders who rely on non-compliant
