80% of Americans say nation is out of control

Eight in ten Americans believe the country is “out of control” in a devastating verdict on President Biden’s performance with a week of campaigning left before midterm elections.

Almost all Republican voters said that America is in chaos and a large majority of independents (88 per cent) agree, an ominous sign for Democrats in next week’s elections to decide who runs Congress.

Biden, 79, defeated President Trump on a pledge to “restore the soul of the nation” from political polarisation. However, YouGov polling for CBS News indicates that voters believe the country is as turbulent now as it was at the height of protests unleashed by the murder of George Floyd, when an NBC News poll in June 2020 found 80 per cent of Americans
