Jordan Henderson is close to completing a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq and the impending transfer will leave Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp needing to appoint a new captain
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson looks set to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq this summer after the Reds agreed a deal worth £12m plus add-ons to sell him.
The move will see him reunite with former teammate Steven Gerrard, who is now Al-Ettifaq’s manager and could see Henderson earn £700,000-a-week in wages. He will become the highest-profile England player to join a Saudi Pro League side and Henderson has come in for major criticism over his impending move.
He was left out of the squad as Liverpool beat Karlsruher 4-2 in a pre-season friendly in Germany on Wednesday and his departure begs the question of who will replace him as captain. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at five options.
New signing Dominik Szoboszlai has already hinted that Van Dijk could be Liverpool’s new skipper after he captained them in their friendly against Karlsruher.
