Now, a medical expert has warned of a number of key symptoms that shouldn't be overlooked when it comes to the disease. According to Bupa, peptic ulcers are "sores that can develop in your gastrointestinal tract (GI tract), including your stomach". Speaking to The Mirror, Dr. Kenneth Brown, a gastroenterologist in Plano, Texas, said: "Around 70% of ulcers can be asymptomatic, so severe and life-threatening problems can show up, and when told an ulcer caused these issues most people admit to stomach aches that were being ignored." He continued: "People can present with black stools due to an intestinal bleed high up in the digestive tract, which if turns red is a massive bleed."
