The price of a bottle of whisky would increase to more than £18 under new proposals by SNP ministers.
The minimum unit price (MUP) for alcohol in Scotland could rise to 65p per unit under the plans, which would see the cost of a bottle of wine go up by at least £1.35.
The current MUP term, which was set at 50p per unit when introduced in 2018, will come to an end on April 30, 2024.
Elena Whitham, the drugs and alcohol policy minister, said the proposals would strike a “reasonable balance” between health benefits and the effect on business.
